Biotechnology: independent streak.
نویسنده
چکیده
Ethan Perlstein was frustrated. As a non-traditional postdoc, he had spent five years running an independent lab at Princeton University in New Jersey. He wanted to continue doing what he had trained for, but a tough academic job market meant that he had no guarantees. So he decided to move to a noted biotechnology hub, California's San Francisco Bay area, to try launching his own lab without the support of an academic institution.

The role of biotechnology for agricultural sustainability in Africa.
Sub-Saharan Africa could have a shortfall of nearly 90Mt of cereals by the year 2025 if current agricultural practices are maintained. Biotechnology is one of the ways to improve agricultural production. Insect-resistant varieties of maize and cotton suitable for the subcontinent have been identified as already having a significant impact. Virus-resistant crops are under development. These incl...
متن کاملThe eed mutation disrupts anterior mesoderm production in mice.
Mouse embryos homozygous for the mutation embryonic ectoderm development (eed) exhibit a growth defect and fail to gastrulate normally. While extraembryonic mesoderm is produced extensively, very little embryonic mesoderm is detected in eed mutant embryos, and there is no subsequent organization of mesoderm into node, notochord, or somites. The phenotype is consistent with a defect in the dista...
متن کاملDesign of microcontroller based system for automation of streak camera.
A microcontroller based system has been developed for automation of the S-20 optical streak camera, which is used as a diagnostic tool to measure ultrafast light phenomenon. An 8 bit MCS family microcontroller is employed to generate all control signals for the streak camera. All biasing voltages required for various electrodes of the tubes are generated using dc-to-dc converters. A high voltag...
متن کاملExperimentally-Induced Metabolic Acidosis Does not Alter Aortic Fatty Streak Formation in High-Cholesterol Fed Rabbits
Objective(s)Cardiovascular disease causes a major clinical problem in patients with end stage renal disease. Since metabolic acidosis is very common in patients with end stage renal disease, we aimed to investigate the effect of experimentally-induced metabolic acidosis on serum lipid profile and aortic fatty streak (FS) formation in normal and high-cholesterol fed rabbits.Materials and Methods...
